2010 Edition About the League The purpose of Lucky Dog Racing: Nationwide Series is: 1. Provide an entertaining competitive league for fans of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. 2. Allow members who aren't able to get into the Cup Series yet, a place to play. 3. Act as a stepping stone and training ground before playing with the Cup members. 3. Provide a database of members for the Cup league. If any member leaves the Cup Series during the year, a Nationwide Series member may be called up to replace them. Cup Series call-up clause If you join the Lucky Dog Racing: Nationwide Series, there is no guarantee that you will be called up to the Cup Series. It all determines on availability. 43 players are all that we allow in the Cup Series. If nobody leaves or is kicked out, there is no room for any Nationwide Series members to join. If, however there is a spot that opens up, the following factors determines who will be called up. 1. A player must have completed one full year in the Nationwide series before they can be promoted to the Cup series. No Nationwide rookies will be allowed in. 2. After the 5th race of the year, the highest member who is within the top 10 of the Nationwide standings, will be asked to join the Cup Series. If all members within the top 10 are already in the Cup Series, the first eligible member on the Cup Series waiting list will be called up. During the off-season, after the top 10 players are called up for openings, the waiting list will be used. Members are ranked by the date in which they join. 3. Once a member is selected, a letter will go out to that individual informing them of the opening. From the date that the letter is mailed, that individual has 3 days to email it back to the President. 4. If the individual does not return the email back in time, the next eligible member will then be asked. The first player will have to wait until the next opening is available before they will have a chance again. 5. IMPORTANT: Once a player is given the opportunity to join the Cup Series, and they fail to act on it... they will not be notified of any future Cup openings. They will only be notified if they email the President back and inform him that they wish to join again at the next opportunity. There will be no reminder emails sent to them. The member can be placed back on the waiting list, however they will be placed at the bottom. There is a $7.00 fee to play a full year of the Cup Series, however if a member is called up after the start of the season, the fee will be waived until next year. Nationwide Series league operation 1. Each week you choose 5 Nationwide drivers from 6 different classes. 2. You receive points for how well your driver does for each race. Some points will be added and some may be subtracted. See the Points breakdown below. 3. Your points from each race will determine where you finish in relation to the other members. Those points will be converted into a scoring system that NASCAR uses and will be used within the standings. The main page also shows the top 10 drivers in the league, latest news, and other feature columns. Creating a team If you do not have a team name that you used in the Truck series, you will need to create a new name. Choose a name for your team (Example, CheesePuff Racing). Please pick a decent sounding name, nothing vulgar. Please try to choose something racing related. The President of the league has the right to reject any name you choose. Members are restricted to running just one team per player. Each member must have their own email. Picks must be made by that person alone. If there are 2 or more members in a household that use the same computer, please inform the President of this. If an investigation determines that one member is running 2 or more teams, those additional teams or all teams may be removed. After your team is created, it is then your responsibility to pick drivers for each race. Failure to do so can result in the removal of your team. Making your picks each week You must choose 5 drivers each week with the option of a 6th bonus driver. Drivers are divided into six different classes. The first 5 groups are drivers within the top 30 in points. The sixth group are drivers outside of the top 30. Simply choose one driver from each of the first 5 groups on the picks form. You have the option of replacing a driver in the 5th group with one from the 6th. Drivers are assigned to their different groups by where they are in the owners standings. In the Nationwide series you are essentially picking the car number over the driver. You will receive points for that car no matter who is driving it. That only applies to your basic picks each week, not your claim jumper bonus driver. See below for more information on this. All drivers attempting the race will be displayed on the picks form, however the league will also has a link to the official entry list on motorsportsone.net so you can double check it. The Claim Jumper bonus The claim Jumper bonus began in 2007 to replace the Truck bonus option. A claim jumper used to be called a Busch-wacker when the series was sponsored by Busch. These drivers are in the top 35 in the Sprint Cup standings and have a full time ride. These drivers generally perform better than regular Nationwide series drivers. The season is divided up into three claim jumper segments. During each segment, you can only use each bonus driver once. You can still pick that driver if they appear in another class during the season. You will have to wait until the next segment before you can use that driver again. If you choose the same bonus driver twice during a segment, you won't receive any bonus points for that particular driver in the race. You can see which drivers you've chosen so far on the Claim Jumper bonus grid which lists everyone's bonus picks. You can link to it from the main menu and from the Nationwide picks form. You can not choose that driver if you already picked him in another class in the same race. If you do, you will receive 0 points for the bonus option. You will not be notified of the error. It is up to you to choose correctly. If you choose a bonus driver and he does not make the field, it will still count for your one pick during the segment. Weekly submission form You must submit your picks each week using the submission form. Failure to do so will results in penalties, please read below. Please be careful choosing your Nationwide picks before the race entry list is released. The submission form is usually changed over shortly after the last race, but the entry list is not usually released until Tuesday. Some drivers that you choose may not be attempting the next race. Pick deadlines The deadline for each race is the night before practice which is usually Thursday night at 10:00pm unless otherwise noted. You may change any of your drivers up until the deadline. After the deadline passes, you may not change your picks under any circumstances. Lateness of picks & provisionals If your picks are not received by the deadline for the race, you will be considered late and will not be able to submit them afterwards. When you miss the deadline, your picks from the previous race will be used. The first time that you miss you will also be docked half the points that you would have earned in the race. Each time afterwards will result in 0 points and be showing in the final position. You will be credited with 0 points unless a member who submitted their picks gets a negative number. If they got -10 points, you would receive -11 points. If it happens three weeks in a row, you will automatically be removed from the league and replaced by a member from the Truck Series or the waiting list. If you are a new member signing up for the league after qualifying, you won't be docked points but you will be unable to pick the pole-sitter. Also, if you are late sending in your picks, in the case of tiebreakers with another member, you will receive the lower seed. Late picks will be considered provisionals and will be listed in the standings. If you know that you are going to be away the following week, you can submit your picks early for the next week or two. Just note which races you are submitting for. If you are going to be away for an extended period of time, please e-mail me and we can work something out. Drivers not making the race If you pick a driver and he doesn't qualify into the race you will be docked 10 points. All the drivers attempting to make the race will appear on the race entry list and the picks form. EXCEPTIONS: 1. If a driver that appears on the entry list gets sick, injured or by some other circumstance can not race that weekend, you will get the points of the substitute driver that will drive the same car. If the car is not run at all that weekend you won't receive any points. In any case, if it happens before qualifying, you have the option to trade your driver. 2. If a driver does not qualify for the field in his designated car, but gets into the race through a driver switch after qualifying, you will NOT receive the points for that driver. Essentially you are choosing the car #'s, not the driver. Rainouts: If qualifying is canceled due to rain or some other cause, the 10 point penalty for a driver not making the field remains in effect, so be sure to watch the weather or pick a different driver that is less of a risk. Scoring Scoring in the league is done 2 different ways. There are race points and standings points. The points that you earn in a race are used to determine your ranking within the race. Those rankings will then be converted over to a points system that NASCAR uses. In NASCAR, the race winner receives 185 points, and goes down in different increments to 34 points for 43rd place. The league uses the same system. If you score 95 race points and are the race winner, you will receive 185 points. These points will be used in the standings for the league. Here is the scoring breakdown which is what NASCAR uses:
Race rankings & tiebreakers After each race, the spot that each member finished in will be displayed. If two members finish with the same amount of points, the member that picked the highest finishing driver that the other team didn't pick will be ranked higher. That also goes for the winner as well. If two members have the most amounts of points over everyone, the member with the highest finishing driver over the other one will be declared the week's winner . The other member will be ranked as second. If two members have the exact same picks, the member that is higher in standings will get the higher spot. If a member sends their picks in late, they will be awarded the lowest seed in a tiebreaker. Race errors Occasionally there may be an error in the race results. The President is only human after all! It is stressed that you check each week that the correct drivers are posted that you picked! Do this when the starting lineup is posted to the race entry list after qualifying is completed. You should have the e-mail that I replied to after I received your picks. This is your proof for what you have picked. Send it to me if you see something wrong with your picks. Please make sure you send it to the ldemian@comcast.net address! Sometimes I may reply to you after I receive your picks from my work address, but I'm not there on the weekends! You should also check the computations after the race has been completed. Make sure your drivers were scored correctly. E-mail me ASAP if you see a mistake. There will be a 2 week grace period that any errors from a completed race can be fixed!! After 2 weeks, the results are frozen and can not be changed. Community forum policy All members have the option to read and post messages in the community forum. A member must first register a name before they can do so. Freedom of speech is always allowed on the board, however constant harassment against a member is not. Smack talk is allowed, however taking constant personal shots at a member is discouraged. If a member feels that they are being unfairly treated by another member, they have the right to bring this to the League President. This includes public posts and private messages. The President monitors the board as he sees fit. Firstly, a verbal warning will be emailed to the member to stop the personal harassment. If it continues, a suspension anywhere from a week to a month from the board will be instituted along with a month long probationary period. During the period, if the member continues the harassment against the individual, a long term suspension will be instituted. This ban could last anywhere from a month to the rest of the season depending on the severity on the harassment. A member WILL NOT be kicked out of the league for any behavior on the boards. League dismissal & re-entry prohibition The league will only dismiss a member mid-season for the following reasons: If a member does not submit their picks for 3 weeks in a row they will automatically be removed from the league, unless there is an extraordinary cimrcumstance that prevents otherwise. If a member misses a total of 5 weeks of not submitting picks they will be removed, unless the council votes them to remain due to an unforseen reason. A member may be allowed back into the league the following year if space permits and they can provide a suitable explanation. If they are allowed back in and it repeats again, they will permanently be banned from the league. A member may also be removed from the league if they are found to be guilty of any detrimental actions that affect the entire league. This would include attempted sabotage of a league member's picks or trying to co-erce other members to leave the league. These actions will be discussed and voted on by the Lucky Dog Planning & Leadership Council to determine the fate of that member's status in the league. The President also has the right to deny anyone entry into the league or to re-sign the following year for whatever reason he sees fit. These reasons may include problems during the previous season such as harrassment of members, sabotage, bashing or degrading the league in some way. Only once a member is accepted into the league after the start of the season will he have the rights and privileges that all members share. Member rights Once a member is accepted into the league for the season, they have the rights and privileges of all Lucky Dog Racing members. 1. All members have the right to submit picks each week for whatever league they are in. 2. All members have the right to partake on the message board and are allowed to have their own screen name. 3. All members have the right to freedom of speech as long as it is not considered personal harassment to another individual. Members have the right to share their ideas or changes to the league. 4. All members have the right to bring a change, idea or concern to the President or any council member. That member has the right for that issue to be voted on by the council. 5. Members have the right to remain in the league without being forced out for any reason except for not submitting picks or for attempts to sabotage the league. Freedom of speech is allowed except when it is used to sway members away from the league. A member may not submit picks under another person's name in an attempt to sabotage their picks for the week. 6. All members have the right to play in a fun and safe environment. If a member is harassed by another player, they have the right to inform the President and appropriate actions will be instituted. Rule changes The president has the right to change or amend any rule during the season. Most likely any change that occurs will happen before a race and will not affect the outcome of the previous one. Rule changes for the Busch Series are usually handled by the President himself and not voted on by the council since most council members are not in the Busch Series. Any rule changes will either be posted on the site or mailed to members. |
