With a 2 tire strategy, Tony Stewart became the 22nd different winner in 22 Nationwide races at New Hampshire.
Jeff Ping wins race #2 at New Hampshire
Jeff Ping wins his second race of the season and third of his career as he dominates at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Jeff scored a whopping 440 points, just 5 less of the record to get an easy win in the Camping World Sales 200. Jeff's other win this season came back at Darlington.
Jeff won by a margin of 15 points over 2nd place with his picks of Tony Stewart, David Ragan, Denny Hamlin, Marcos Ambrose, Kyle Busch and bonus pick of Kevin Harvick. It seems to be either feast or famine this year for Jeff. While he has two wins now, he has a number of other less than stellar finishes which is keeping him down in the standings. Hopefully this will keep the momentum going and Jeff can climb even higher. He moves up 2 spots this week to 34th place.
One guy who does have momentum going for him is Gary Wheat. Gary finishes in 2nd place this week for his 6th top 5 of the year. Gary just won last week and now has a nice 2nd place run. He also had a 2nd place run 4 weeks ago in Dover. He's been moving up the standings a lot in that time, he's now up into the top 5 after moving 2 spots.
Troy Wiggins gets his best career finish in 10 races as he finishes in 3rd place. the "veteran" rookie gets his first top 5 of the year and 2nd top 10 after scoring 415 points this week. He moves up one spot past Hurricane Sidwell who has run all 18 races this year.
Coming in 4th place is Leon Baker who gets his 4th top 5 of the season. Leon is having an average season in his first full year in the league. He's having better luck here than he is in the Truck series this year. With any luck he could get up into the top 10 before long. This week he moves 3 spots to 17th place.
Rounding out the top 5 is Paul Ouderkirk with his first career top 5. It's been a rough start for the rookie driver, he's 6th in the standings out of the 8 rookies and is also down in 35th place. Still, he did race in one less race than mostly everyone else and has already passed a number of drivers who have been here for all 18 races.
The top 2 drivers remain the same in the standings, but Chip Pizzutti gained a few points on leader Dean Higley. Dean finished 20th while Chip came in 18th. The two drivers are separated by just 6 points now. Further on back are Jordan Hunt and Melanie Hicks who are over a hundred points behind.
Next week the series heads over to Daytona for some fireworks both on and off the track as the Winn-Dixie 250 runs on July 4th. It should be an interesting race as most Nationwide races on restrictor plates are. Enjoy the race and enjoy the 4th of July!
Landon Cassill got his first career pole but the outcome wasn't too good after starting in the back from an engine change.
