Harvick Overcomes Pit Miscues To Win At Vegas
Kevin Harvick was dominant in the race but his pitcrew sure didn't help him much on the way too victory.
Randy Cook Takes The Win And Points Lead At Vegas
After two weeks of Teeder Jenkins sitting on top of the standings, we have a new leader after Randy Cook moves to the top thanks to a dominating victory in Las Vegas. After the points record was broken last week at California, Randy came within 5 points of tying that new record. Randy scored a total of 485 points and became the third different winner in the first three races of the year. It was the 4th career victory for Randy in the Nationwide series and first since June 2007 at New Hampshire. He broke an 89 race winless streak.
Randy was running race winner Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, Trevor Bayne, Brad Keselowski, Greg Biffle and bonus pick of Denny Hamlin. He now moves to the top of the standings where he will try to hold back everyone else at Bristol in 2 weeks. The highest that Randy has ever finished in the Nationwide series is 9th.
Randy easily took the win by 60 points over 2nd place. Finishing in 2nd was Rick Paintin who earns his first top 5 of the year. Rick started the year pretty slow, 22nd in Daytona and 37th at California. Now with his first good finish of the season, he jumps up 20 spots to 14th place, the highest mover of the week.
Ray Perrotta was the highest finishing rookie of the race as he finishes in 3rd as he picks up his first career top 5. Ray is also the highest rookie in the standings and currently leads all rookies in the ROTY standings by 5 points over 2nd place.
Paul Ouderkirk finishes in 4th for his first top 5 of the season. He makes a nice jump in the standings, 10 spots up to 4th place. He currently leads his brother Jeffrey who is right behind him in 5th.
Rounding out the top 5 this week is Dean Higley. The defending Cup series champion earns his first top 5 in the Nationwide series and moves up 6 spots to 3rd place. Even though its early in the season, the two time Nationwide series champion is showing that he could be a contender this year.
With three races completed for the season, the Nationwide series now takes a two week break. We will next race at Bristol on March 20th before taking another 1 week break after that.
Danica Patrick's first NASCAR stint ended early in Vegas after Michael McDowell took her out.
