The Top 10 Breakdown: Bristol

March 28, 2005
Lou Demian

After a week off, it’s time to put away your colored eggs and get ready for some real bumping and grinding on the racetrack. Here’s a look at the top 10 as we head into Bristol which marks the one year anniversary of our first race.

1st - Jerry Jones Racing: Last year it took 10 races for JJR to get on top of the standings. This year it took only 4 races. He’ll now work on building up a comfortable cushion as two teams are within 50 points of him. After a nice third place run at Atlanta and all top 10 runs so far, Shawn seems to be right on track on where he needs to be. He’ll try to keep his driver win pick streak going this week to match his 5 race streak last year.

2nd – Gasitnpassit: Lost just a little bit of steam last week after a 16th place finish in Atlanta but still remains hot and holds his second place position. Big name drivers in his Superstar picks remained in effect while picking Mark Martin for Atlanta. Kurt Busch, a possible favorite for teams to pick as their superstar pick this race has been used by Gasitnpassit already, so it’s possible he might be bumped down a spot or two this week.

3rd – Intimidator Racing: Desperately needing a top 10 finish to remain in the top 10 in the standings, Intimidator Racing got his wish in Atlanta after a nice 2nd place run. The finish moved him up 5 points in the standings. Hoping to feed off that, he hopes for a top 5 finish and move up to 2nd in the standings. He currently leads the league in drivers leading laps and average race points.

4th – CrazyAboutRusty2: Crazy’s hoping Rusty has a good run at Bristol. Rusty finished in 27th place in Atlanta. That combined with 2 other drivers being below 20th place, resulted in a 22nd place finish for Crazy. He fell one spot in the standings with that finish. After starting the season with 2 top 5’s, then 2 mediocre finishes, He hopes his finishes can go in 2’s, just like his favorite driver’s number, and earn another top 5 this week.

5th – Fast Eddie Racing: Fast describes how Eddie is moving up the standings. 16 spots in 3 weeks to 5th place is pretty impressive. Each week Eddie gets a little better… 21st, 14th, 9th, and 5th place. Eddie hopes to keep that trend alive and look for his first win of the season and another nice move in the standings.

6th – High Octane: June Bug Racing said he should have been called Nitrous Racing. He took off like a bullet winning the first 2 races but sputtered out with no endurance. His lost two finishes were 26th and 36th, so there could be some logic there. His 36th place finish in Atlanta dropped him 5 spots in the standings after leading the first 3 weeks. You can’t use Nitro at Bristol, so it’s possible High Octane might run out of gas and fall from the top 10.

7th – Pappy’s Drivers: Pappy’s Happy. Three straight top 10 finishes will do that for you. So will moving up 33 spots in the standings in 3 weeks after starting 40th from Daytona. Pappy’s looking to bump High Octane into the wall at Bristol and work with Fast Eddie Racing to reach the top of the standings. Pappy has the highest picks average in the league and looks to be a favorite heading into Bristol this week.

8th – Legacy Racing: Atlanta was good to Legacy Racing. After falling 10 spots from a 31st finish at Vegas, Legacy rebounded with a top 10 at Atlanta and moved back into the top 10. After finishing 18th out of 24 teams last year, Legacy Racing is a much improved team this year. He’s also third in the Busch Series too!

9th – Miller MotorSports: Running ahead but getting nowhere, Miller MotorSports keeps gaining 3 spots but losing 3 spots the following week. He’s gone from 6th to 9th, up to 6th then back to 9th. Hoping to keep it up, he looks to gain 3 more spots after Bristol but after that…. Who knows?

10th - Boogity Boogity Boogity: A nice 6th place finish in Atlanta bumped Boogity up 9 places into the top 10 for the first time this season. She had two 21st finishes in a row after a 14th place run in Daytona, and hopes to gain some more ground at Bristol. She’s tied in the league for most driver top 10’s at 5.

Outside Looking in:

Shawnda’s Redneck Racing: Had a mediocre 18th place run in Atlanta but managed to gain a spot in the standings. A top 10 run should put her into the top 10 in the standings for the first time in her career.

Bump And Go Racing: Edged a little closer back into the top 10 after finishing 17th in Atlanta. He’s gained positions each week and has a good chance of doing so again at Bristol where he scored a top 10 last year
