2005 SamSung/RadioShack Race Report

April 19, 2005
Shawnda Moore

Shawnda Moore of Shawnda's Redneck Racing was kind enough to write up a little report of her experience at the 2005 SamSung/Radio Shack race on April 17, 2005.

Well, the track was hot in Texas this weekend. Me and my brother Kendall (Big Country MotorSports) made our 3 hour trip to Fort Worth to take part in our annual April NASCAR trip. This year we spent three days at the track! We blended in real well with the other 248,000 people there. This is the fourth time i have been to the Samsung RadioShack 500, and this was by far the largest crowd i have ever seen at this race. (I understand why Texas is getting a second race this year!) We did it up true redneck style! We pitched a tent, brough the bbq grill and the whole nine yards. It was awsome. We met all kinds of people. And i will say this-----------there is no fans in the world like NASCAR fans. They are the most devoted fans of any sport in the world. ( i just have never seen fans camp out a week a head of time to watch a football game!)

We were very confident of our picks that we submited before heading to the great American speedway. But, as you can all see, did not end up the way we expected. Me and Kendall felt good about picking Kasey Kahne as our superstar driver. And after the Busch race on Saturday even more confident. But that all ended in turn four! Right in front of were our seats were. I will admit i was very upset!

I have not really stated my opinion of the problems Dale Jr. and his new crew have been having since the season started. But after the Texas race i know what is wrong now! He is just not getting along with his crew chief. As he so verbally displayed on the scanner all day. He did his job in telling how his car was running and letting them know how it was handling in every turn and every green flag run. And the only thing he got out of his crew chief was "10-4" i could tell he was getting a little teed off with him, as he so "colorfully" responded. I am not going to type his exact words in this artical, but it was not pretty. And what is sad about it, his crew deserved it totally! I felt sorry for him. It was like he was out there on that track allllllll alone. I did not say to much about the crew switch. I just figured that DEI has a reason for doing it, and it must have been a good one. But now i can say it was a mistake! And i would not be suprised if Jr had his old crew back or a new one altogether next year. And as for the guy i promised the picture of the 24 and 48 crashing in turn four........sorry i did not get it, but i sure hope the one of Kasey crashing will be good enough!.....lol. I will have all my pictures developed within the next week or so. I hope Lou will post some on the site, cus i have a very special one of something you will only find in texas!

Thank you
Shawnda Moore
